To commemorate Guillermo Vilas, the man for whom the Puma GV was created, Puma is set to release the “Hall of Fame” edition Puma GV. Based on the original Puma GV silhouette, the “Hall of Fame” GVs feature an Argentina colorway and a photo of Guillermo Vilas hoisting the French Open trophy on the tongue. The “Hall of Fame” Puma GV is set to hit very select retail outlets worldwide on May 15th.

On the tennis court, Guillermo Vilas, or the “Young Bull of Pampas” as he was also known, was a head-banded fashion-conscious playboy who defined a new era of cool. In 1991, he cemented his legendary status when he was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. To honor this amazing achievement 16 years later, PUMA is releasing the GV Hall of Fame sneaker “From The PUMA Archives” collection that pays homage to this tennis ace.
Based on the original GV silhouette, a style Guillermo Vilas made as famous as his signature sweatband, this new edition features creamy white leather with a perforated gray suede toe and Argentina-blue leather formstripe. The graphic on the sockliner showcases a Hall of Fame tribute logo with the PUMA cat.
The commemorative, iconic photo on the tongue is what makes this sneaker so distinguishable. It captures the moment 20 years ago in 1977 when Vilas won the French Open, proudly hoisting his trophy. The heel logo on the left shoe is marked with ‘19’ and the right with ‘91’, marking his induction date into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. The shoe also comes with light blue or white shoe laces, as well as an Argentina-yellow sole making the shoe bold and distinctive – just as Vilas was on the court.
Created for the sneaker enthusiasts and sports fans alike, the GV Hall of Fame embodies the hero, his sense of ‘cool’, and his stylish tastes. The GV Hall of Fame hits stores May 15th and will be available for a limited time only exclusively at select retailers before heading back to the PUMA archives.
