Back when news of a retro Black/Red Air Jordan Retro XII first hit, many of us automatically expected a retro of the classic OG Black/Red Air Jordan XII. As time went on, we all realized that this retro Black/Red XII is actually the Flu Game Air Jordan Retro XII, a reinterpretation of the classic Black/Red Air Jordan XII designed to pay tribute to Michael Jordan's legendary Flu Game. Though many people have welcomed the change, many purists still wish that Jordan Brand had left well enough alone.
In this post, we'll take a look at the history of the Black/Red Air Jordan XII by comparing the OG, Retro, and Flu Game versions.

KATC, I want to thank you for posting this. It's important to know what we are getting and what has changed over the years with the retros. I was on the fence with these (since I hate the comparable "Mr. Yuck" stamp on them), but now after seeing comparison pics I'm definitely passing. No questions about it.
We don't really need all these gross changes unless JB wants to improve the technology on them. I once owned several pairs of the XII OGs with Playoffs being my favorite and loved them (despite the creases)! I don't think I could put those junky Flu Games on my feet. Seems like a kid-targeted shoe more than anything. Maybe I'm living in the 90's but I'm not paying more for a crappier-designed product made with even more crappier materials. This **** belongs in the toilet, outhouse, or dumpster ... just like where other **** goes.
You people are just f*cking nuts. How are these crappy. I thought all along from the time they first released back in 96 or whenever that they should have been made of nubuck. I think these are great. The only thing I wouldn't have changed is the color of the 23 on the back. It should have stayed black.
shoulda kept the leather upper and the black '23' on the outsole...
I think a comparison I would like to see is some fake 12's vs. the Flu Games. I feel as thought there might be some interesting similarities. Just to get a feeling what is really being given to the customer. Could be insightful.
Like to see this comparison made to a couple other J's too.

the details on the flu make them unique.....i can said almost better than the og or retro....don't get me wrong but pic of the linnig and back....love the over nubuk...but image the flu on leather...wow!!!

Holy mudda... I hope "flu games" hit the outlets then for a great price. OUTDOOR BEATERS! What happened? Jordan is purposely giving us expensive low-quality sneakers to be used as beaters, aren't they? They want all the OG and 1st release retros collectors to be happy with their shoes? What about other people? Not buying it!

If you want something that looks exactly like the OG, then go on eBay and find them. Every f*cking release, it's the same ****... "There are not like the OGs", "I hate JB", "What a ****** quality", "I prefer the OGs"... Stop whining!
We are in 2009 not in 1985, everything change! You just look like those 80 years old grandpa who keep saying "when I was a kid...".
So that's it, you have 2 options: find yourself some OGs or stop buying from JB, cause you know what? It's impossible to do the exactly the shoes like in 1996!

Thanks for the comparison, as the XII's are my favorite Jordan's to play in. I wasn't going to get a pair, but now that I see they are different than the retro's I have, I think I'll get a pair now. I can always count on an in depth look at a shoe here, thanks for a bangin' site

i hate to disrespect any1 on hear but some of you are deaf dumb and blind. Og J's werent that expensive Og xi were like 120 with great quality damn near every numeral jordan was that way. long story short if you are complaining about people upset w/ lack of quality you look stupid cuz your gettng charged way more for less quality and telling people not to critisize low quality w/ an expensive price. and for the grandpa comment quality just took a nose dive about 3-5 years ago. Saw them today in person and I am copping...... looking at those pics it seems like the 1st retro was better quality than the OG..LOL... I don't care what anyone says, I am buying these POINT BLANK and trust I will be buying the red/wht XIIs as well (one of my grails) The only thing I don't like that I noticed today when I saw the Flu Games was the fact the the 23 on the back was red instead of black... I'm cool with everything else. November 24th here I come....... IF YOU DON'T LIKE, DON'T BUY... that's all. Being from the ol' school I must say, it is rare to find a retro that has the same materials...WHY???? I think KNOWLEDGE hit on it (business philosophy -- minimize cost, maximize profit) but we are NOT and I repeat NEVER gonna get the same prices.. we are in a whole different economy now..... No Disrespect KNOWLEDGE, but I CAN'T AGREE WITH YOUR COMMENT -- $125 for a pair of Js back then was a lot of pesos.... I remember getting my rd/wht XIIs on a sales rack at Modells for $75... and that was hurtin' me. I copped but those prices set a brother back...LOL.. I don't think I'll see these Js on any sales racks this time around... LOL.. these are not the 09s..LOLOLOLOLOL.....
