Nike Hyperdunk Part 1: Initial Details and Olympic Nike Hyperdunk Kobe PE Detailed Look

On April 7th, Nike officially kicked off their "Beijing 2008 Innovation Summit" at the Nike World Headquarters in Portland Oregon. With this Summit, Nike unveiled several new apparel and footwear technologies and products aimed at providing the world's best athletes with the pinnacle in performance wear. As part of these new technologies and products, Nike introduced the Flywire and Lunar Foam technologies that will appear in several pieces of footwear across Olympics Sports, including, Nike Basketball's Nike Hyperdunk. The Nike Hyperdunk is the culmination of over fours years of research and design aimed at creating not only the lightest Basketball sneaker possible, but also, a Basketball sneaker that can sustain intense amounts of pressure, and, naturally react around the foot when making sharp cuts.
The Nike Hyperdunk features Nike's Flywire technology on the lateral and medial side walls (more on Flywire to come), Lunar Foam, an incredibly light foam technology based on the foam used in NASA (more on Lunar Foam to come as well), Zoom Air in the heel, a Carbon Fiber spring plate, and more.
The Nike Hyperdunk was designed by Eric Avar for and in conjunction with the most demanding Basketball player in the sport, Kobe Bryant. Continuing the principles found in the ZKIII, the Nike Hyperdunk provides Kobe with a lightweight sneaker with great court feel, and, natural formfitting Nike Flywire sidewalls that conform and work with, rather than against as is the case with leather which expands outwards, his feet as he makes his sharp cuts to the basket. The thinking is, if you can create a sneaker for Kobe Bryant, you could create a sneaker for anyone since no other athlete on the planet is as demanding and focused on his footwear as Kobe is. The Hyperdunk is not Kobe's sneaker and it is not a Soldier like alternative to Kobe's line, but, it is positioned as the ultimate sneaker for the ultimate player, Kobe Bryant, is that ultimate player.
Kobe Bryant is set to officially unveil his Away Lakers colorway of the Nike Hyperdunk on April 10th versus the Los Angeles Clippers and he will continue to wear the Nike Hyperdunk throughout the Olympics. The Hyperdunk is officially set to release in July in two General Release colorways, White and Black, at a retail of $110. As of now a release date has not been confirmed for the "Olympic" Nike Hyperdunk Kobe PEs.
KATC will have MUCH more on the Nike Beijing Innovation Summit and the Nike Hyperdunk throughout the week.
