It Finally Happened: A Quick Q&A with Bobbito Garcia on his Upcoming Nike Air Force 1 Low "Kool Bob Love"

With all of the grandiose celebrations and sneakers dedicated to almost mythical figures, it is inspiring to see an Air Force 1 dedicated to a man whose love for sneaker culture began, and still exists, in the streets of NYC. On April 14, Nike is set to release the "Kool Bob Love" Nike Air Force 1, a collaborative effort between Nike and Hip-Hop Pioneer/DJ/Author/Actor/Street Ball Legend/Founder of Bounce Magazine/EA Sports/Personality/and Much More, Bobbito Garcia.

Bobbito designed the "Kool Bob Love" Air Force 1 to embody his love for DJing/Music and Basketball.

KATC caught up with Bob to ask about his design and his inspiration in putting it together.

KATC: First, congratulations on this achievement. It is well deserved. What was your inspiration in designing the "Kool Bob Love"?

Bobbito: Well, the hand over the 12" record and basketball in the logo is obviously my two passions in life and I wanted to well rep that in the sneaker. People forget that the AF1 is a basketball shoe. That's how I was introduced to it in '83 when I wore them on my HS squad, and it will always remain that to me. So I picked out color schemes that could be worn on-court, off, whatever.

KATC: How did you go about selecting the colors on the upper?

Bobbito: I wanted to freak combos that no one has ever seen before, but not go so far off the deep end that they can't be worn. I know the crafty will figure out an outfit to dip it up with. They're not for the everyday casual AF1 wearer. At all. They're for the real heads. I've shown them to guys from my generation (I'm 40) and they were buggin'. Young ones been feelin' them too. So I feel like I did something right. I'm very satisfied.

KATC: Thanks for taking the time out to speak with us.

In addition to these "Kool Bob Love" AF1s, Bobbito and Nike are set to release two more Bobbito x Nike AF1s, one in May, and the finale to the pack, in June.

I really like these, the colors are quite simply and they come together nicely. I like the little details like the vinyls and the basketball...definitely gotta cop a pair

The pics look str8 and I'm sure the kicks will be even more stunning in person. I trust Bobbito put a lot of attention to detail into the design & materials. Now, if only Nike would put this much effort into EVERY pair of kicks....
